- Eurocharged Custom "007" Tune for Vantage V8 -
The long wait is FINALLY over .... You have no idea how long & intense of a project this was but after months of hard work I have finally be able to get my car custom dyno tuned by a local tuner in town.
The gains were beyond my expectations and have completely woken up the car in a way I never thought possible. For the first time I truly feel like the car is starting to get scary quick (compared to what it used to be). The tune + RPI catback and helped me easily coast past Vantage S spec and now the real fun is going to begin.
The gains have really transformed the car from sluggish & slow to blistering quick on the top end. Past 5000 it has really turned into a monster. The extra rpms have also made the car far more enjoyable to push to the limits. This tune ALONE will basically push any stock 380HP 4.3L to N420 spec.
It appears remote tuning may still be a couple months away, but this tune is available to all vantage owners based in Houston, TX. I want every Houston, TX Based owner to listen very carefully ... Get in your car right now and drive down to Eurocharged IMMEDIATELY ... this is an absolute MUST for your car . It will be the best upgrade you ever do to your car! (I promise). All you have to do is ask for the "007" tune and they will upload my exact file to your car ... My gift to all the vantage owners ...
Peak gain: 31.4 HP @ REAR WHEELS aka 39.25HP @ crank (yes you read that correctly, view dyno in writeup) ...
Benefits: Tuned directly through OBD2 port in minutes!
Gas Mileage: TBD, but it should improve drastically
Price: please view writeup as posting prices on forum is apparently not allowed
This is where Eurocharged entered the picture early in 2011. For months Eurocharged has been working diligently to revolutionize the Aston tuning market. Frustratingly so, I was having a tough time figuring out who to take on this challenge but after someone suggested Eurocharged I quickly did my research and began to realize that they the by far the best potential tuner to take on such a high end exotic tune for the V8V application. After having spoken to Jerry in depth for some time, it was immediately evident he KNEW what he was talking about and could clearly articulate exactly what could be done for my application. Unlike many tuners which gave me a bunch of marketing fluff and lamen jargon, Jerry did not speak in a condescending tone or insult my intelligence. He made the complex seem so simple and that's what really put me at ease the most when entrusting my car to him. He even made a super accurate prediction with regards to the actual power gains and hit the nail on the head within a couple HP (I still can't believe he was so accurate that early on in the process). Also, another big concern of mine had to do with the fact that the stock 4.3L ECU cannot even be ordered from the factory anymore (dealership said they are on backorder indefinitely, which he said basically meant "we cannot get it period")
What separates Eurocharged is they could provide local onsite custom dyno tuning VIA THE OBD2 PORT!. This means we Aston owners no longer have to remove our ECUs by taking off the front passenger wheel in order to make updates. This was an absolute must and I refused to remove my ECU again after realizing what a huge pain it was (especially if you plan on upgrading the tune frequently). Also, retuning the car can be done literally in minutes instead of hours. The biggest reason I did not want to take my ECU out over and over again (aside from the expensive labor fees) is the fact that if I ever lost the ECU in transit the car would basically be a paperweight since I could never replace the ECU. It became readily apparent that they would be the best option for my custom tuning needs. Furthermore, I would use my car as the test bed for the entire Vantage community to extract the maximum safe HP out of our ECUs each step along the way. Another added benefit of choosing Eurocharged is ALL my future retunes would be 100% free, I could get it retuned locally any time I wanted within a matter minutes once setup on the dyno.
Lastly, I am very careful who I entrust my vehicle to (especially considering their price) and after speaking with Jerry for countless hours regarding the tune I was convinced he was the only one who could extract the power levels I was seeking. He patiently answered all my questions (which were plenty & frequent) and provided all the technical assistance and support I could have ever asked for. He also gave me a direct "behind the scenes" direct access view of the tuning process to ensure everything was 100% legitimate and there was no foul play of any kind. I can assure you these results are absolutely the real deal and 100% accurate.
Installation: Only 1 hour for actual tune process (excluding all R&D time of course)
The actual tune process is a breeze. Jerry simply hooks up his magic computers to the OBD2 port and checks a few parameters and within 10-15 min the new file is being uploaded. A few checks are done and within 30min-1 hour the car is ready to go and back on the road. All my files will be kept on file and backed up for future reference and I can visit the shop anytime to retune the car for free after every new modification I do (if necessary, not all mods will require a retune, but the big ones will).
Performance (Dyno Below):
My experience as a Eurocharged customer has been the best tuning experience of my life. Normally when I used to get retunes in the past they would make absurdly unrealistic promises and under perform drastically. From day one after Jerry saw my baseline ... he immediately predicted based on my air/fuel ratios that he could confidently get 30+HP @ the wheels (to which I was naturally skeptic simply b/c no tuner has ever been able to extract that much power). However, I had 100% trust in Jerry and his capabilities so I said I would allow him to use my car as his test bench.
The tuning process really is such an exciting process to watch first hand. I never thought I would have such a behind the scenes perspective. Over 10 dynos were done as each parameter was finely tuned then dynoed to monitor the gains after each run. Each run charted the gains as every run made more and more every time. Although most won't ever get such a first hand look as I did into the process simply because they weren't the "guinea pig", I can assure you the level of R&D that went into this impressed even myself. My patience after waiting many months paid off as I got to enjoy the entire process first hand watching Vantage began opening her lungs more and more with every passing run.
Obviously, I do not want to give up any trade secrets or proprietary information that eurocharged shared with me (don't expect the same level of openness, perks of being the guinea pig haha). However, they did explain that there are many different parameters that can be adjusted. Most tuners simply modify one or two parameters and when they make some gains that are high enough to be marketable they simply stop there. Jerry explained that this is not a true FULL comprehensive tune, it is merely manipulating certain variables to get good general results but it fails to truly address all the weak links. What is even more amazing about the tune results is that we could have kept extracting more and more power, but Jerry emphasized that this was more than enough for a Stage 1 tune and explained its always best to tune on the safe side and never push the motor too hard (I fully agree). Further gains will be extracted on Stage 2 tune (and higher). All of my tunes will be available to the rest of the V8V community and will be added to their tuning library as my project moves forward (at a very quick pace). For now the rpms have been kept at a reasonable level until there is enough substantial evidence to prove more rpms can be added safely.
The dyno used for all of the testing is the new digital Dyno Dynamics dyno (with the most recent software update). This is the most accurate dyno for tuning testing purposes, albeit, it also reads the lowest of any of the major dyno brands. The reason for its lower readings is due to its accurate real world loading capabilities which give you an accurate measurement of what your exact car will read exactly as it will perform on the street. Using absurdly high inertia based dyno measurements is not an accurate method of measurement because it both starts off at a much higher baseline (naturally inflating numbers) and there is no load placed on the rollers so they are essentially just free spinning. My baseline numbers are lower than most and even so, the tune managed to put out steller gains in conjunction with the RPI exhaust (both complimented each other very well for maximum high end HP).
Peak Gains: 31.4 HP @ WHEELS at Redline! (10.29% increase in HP, $47/HP @ wheels)
Redline: +300rpm, from 7200rpm stock to 7500rpm
Price: $1499 w/ free lifetime retunes for your specific vantage
Benefits: OBD2 flashing ensures easy onsite tuning
There is no doubt in my mind that this is by far the best modification for our V8 Vantage application. No other modification will provide such a substantial gain at such a modest price. There are certainly many different modding options out there, yet I never really was enthused about any of them since the performance gains were usually minimal and rarely produced legitimate gains at the rear wheels under real world conditions.
Aston Martin has provided numerous upgrade solutions for Vantage owners, but none of them can be classified a bargain by any stretch. The Power Pack upgrade costs $5000 for a lackluster crank 20hp ($250/HP) versus the Eurocharged tune ($47/wHP). The factory upgrade is 5x more costly per 1HP than a simple reflash tune.
Up to this point, the only two modifications performed to my Vantage have been RPI catback & eurocharged tune. In doing so, I have managed to increased maximum power by 44HP @ the wheels! 44HP @ wheels on the DD dyno at a conservative 20% drivetrain loss for the higher loading dyno comes out to 55 CRANK HP. These two modifications alone have propelled a bone stock 4.3L Vantage past Vantage S spec (if that isn't impressive, I don't know what is). Remember also, this is on a Dyno Dynamics loading dyno with a low original baseline. The power percentage increase from these two modifications alone sum up to 15.1% power increase. What is even more impressive is the fact that these gains are made on 4 year old STOCK AIR FILTERS. Stock intake, Stock cats, Stock everything other than those two components mentioned.
I hope these results finally put the skeptics arguing there is no way to make big NA power on these cars ... it simply IS NOT TRUE.
